Humans season 3 start date, cast, trailer, plot: When does it start? How many episodes?

When will Humans season 3 start on Channel 4?

Season three will be starting on Channel 4  tomorrow (Thursday, May 17) at 9pm.

The drama will be picking up a year from the season two finale, which saw all Synths given consciousness by Mattie Hawkins (played by Lucy Carless).

Humans will see the world now divided as Synths are feared and loathed in equal measure by mankind.

Society has become fractured as the Synths hide for fear of reprisals, while a village called Waltringham has sprung up and is free from all artificial intelligence.

How many episodes are in Humans season 3?

There will be a total of eight episodes in season three, the same number as the previous instalments.

The opening instalment follows on from the aftermath of Day Zero and sees Mia (Gemma Chan), Max (Ivanno Jeremiah) and the other Synths living in a remote location in the countryside.

Meanwhile, Joe (Tom Goodman-Hill) has relocated to Waltringham as he moves further away from Synths.

Mattie and Toby Hawkins (Theo Stevenson) are living with their mother Laura (Katherine Parkinson) in the family home.

Laura is still supporting Synths and helping them to gain rights but seems to be fighting against the tide.

On top of that, order has been restored with the introduction of “orange eyes”, a new model of Synth that apparently can’t be affected by the self-awareness code used to set the original ones free.

Season three will focus on how sentient Synths – referred to as “green eyes” – will be trying to fight for their rights and acknowledgement as a race of their own.

Judging by a trailer for the upcoming drama, Mia will be right at the front of the battle for civil liberties as she urges Laura to help represent her and other Synths.

Speaking about season three at a recent screening, star Goodman-Hill told media including Express.co.uk: “I think the real villain is the situation.

“I think what’s great is that it feel completely real, it feels like now more than ever.

“Now that the world is bedded in you suddenly stop seeing the Synths, you just see the situations that people are in.

“So there’s not so much that there’s a major villain, it’s just that the situation is so epic and huge and so far-reaching that you stop looking at individuals.”

Chan, who was also at the press event, said: “There’s a sense of the events of the world taking over the personal worlds of the characters in it.”

Who will be in Humans season 3?

Humans will see Gemma Chan reprising her role as self-aware Synth Mia, while Black Mirror star Ivanno Jeremiah is back as the benevolent Max.

Also returning will be Emily Berrington as the volatile Niska as will Colin Morgan as Leo Elster, the son of the scientist who created Synths.

Katherine Parkinson will be back as lawyer Laura Hawkins and Joe Goodman-Hill is playing her estranged husband Joe.

Back in the frame as the Hawkins children will be Lucy Carless as Mattie, Theo Stevenson as Toby and Pixie Davies as youngest Sophie.

Other cast members in season three include Ruth Bradley as undercover Synth Karen Voss, Ritu Arya as Flash and Bella Dayne as Niska’s girlfriend Astrid.

Joining the cast this year is Line of Duty and Shetland actor Mark Bonnar as behavioural scientist Neil Sommer.
