Antiques Roadshow expert Bill Harriman was left surprised when one guest brought along a Colt 37 revolver.
He asked: “How much did you buy it for?”
“Originally, I’ve had it for 40 odd years and I paid about £150 for it,” the guest explained.
Bill replied: “Well, that was a fair sum for it about 40 odds years ago.”
“It was a fair sum,” the guest affirmed. “But I thought it was worth it when I looked at it.”
Bill went on to add: “I’ve thought long and hard about what this might be worth and I have to say I haven’t seen very many of these in my career.
“I’ve actually sold one and obviously I’ve seen them in museums and such like.
“So, to get it properly valued, first you have to establish that it’s the right one and I have no reason to doubt that it’s the right one.
“And if it is, I think it’s got to be £150,000.”
The crowd gathered around the Colt 37 revolver could be heard gasping loudly.
The stunned guest simply noted: “Oh, well.”
Bill continued: “I think it is the most important firearm I have ever seen on the roadshow.
“You know, 31 years, thank you very much.”
He asked what the guest would do with the revolver now he knew it’s worth.
“I am open to offers,” he laughed.
Those tuning into Antiques Roadshow were also left stunned by the valuation and rushed to Twitter to comment.
“£150K and he’s open to offers! Fantastic honesty #antiquesroadshow,” one viewer noted.
Another added: “Omg £150,000 for the revolver #AntiquesRoadshow.”
A third wrote: “#antiquesroadshow 150k for a gun is daylight robbery.”
Antiques Roadshow airs Sunday on BBC One at 8pm.
